The Environmental Education Centre of Vamos is a public establishment located in the village of Kefalas in the Chania Prefecture of the island of Crete in southern Greece. Our Centre offers this school year 9 different environmental education programs about various issues (recycling, climate change, water, forest, olive oil, ecotourism, Old City of Chania, School Gardens and Caves) for school teams. We also coordinate 3 Environmental Education Networks (1 National about Caves and 2 regional about Recycling and School Gardens). For our programs, seminars, workshops and other activities, the Environmental Education Centre of Vamos collaborates with many institutions such as universities, local and regional municipalities, the Municipality’s Waste Management Company, the Management Body of the National Park of Samaria and many others.
For our programs and Seminars we also have a hosting facility, a restored building of 1880 (Parthenagogio of Vamos), given to us by the local municipality so that we can host for free 21 persons.
For our activities and for supporting teachers in environmental education activities we have published books with lesson plans and ideas (about Forest, Olive oil, Recycling, Water, Music in Environmental Education, Innovative teaching methods) and other educational material (such as cards with monumental buildings of the Old City of Chania).
In the past 4 years we have also got approved 2 Erasmus+ KA1 projects, one for Innovative Teaching Methods and one for the Refugees and Migrants Integration (International School, open to refugees and migrants).
Our Environmental Education Center organizes Seminars and Workshops for teachers and adult citizens in Environmental issues such as Environmental Education, Recycling and Waste Management, School Gardens and Biodiversity, Climate Change etc. We also coordinate Days of Action such as beach cleanings, Reuse Days, Bird watching.
